This came back with my uncle when he came home from WWII. He had traveled all over Europe and Northern Africa. I believe this to be leach-wood, from the research I did. It’s a very dense heavy hardwood. This is an exceptional piece, as it is carved beautifully. Compare it to similar busts and you will see what I mean. There is a crack in it but it does not affect the structural soundness at all. See last photo. 9.625” tall. Weight 3 lbs.
